The guild was formed in 1987 to promote the art and quality of quilt making in an atmosphere of friendship and fellowship, as well as serving our community through our philanthropic endeavors. Our members include all skill levels: from beginners to experienced quilters.
Working Components of our Guild
Dues and Guest Fees: Dues are $30 per year, which are due every September. New members joining after September will pay a prorated fee and will renew their full membership on the next September. Guests pay $5 per meeting.
Meetings: We meet at 7:00 P.M. on the second Monday of the month from September through June at the New Britain Baptist Church on the corner of Butler Avenue and Tamenend Avenue, New Britain, PA.
Membership Table: When you arrive, stop by the table and sign-in, pick-up your name tag and get a ticket for the door prizes. Please return your name tag at the end of the meeting.
Hospitality: a sign-up sheet is sent around at each meeting for goodies for the next meeting. In December we have a Holiday Party, and in June we have an Ice Cream Social.
Activity Table: Here you’ll find the “Job Jar.” You receive a ticket for jobs you do for the Guild. For example: bring a goodie, get a ticket, make a place mat, get a ticket, and many more opportunities for tickets exist. We also have a Fat Quarter Drawing. Each month members bring in two fat quarters , color chosen by the previous winner . Place your name on a slip of paper and place in the basket with your fat quarters. At the end of the meeting, a winner is chosen and will win half the FQ’s, and the other half is saved for a Raffle Basket which is raffled twice a year. There are also pamphlets and notices on the table for you.
Philanthrophy: Members meet monthly on the fourth Thursday from 10 A.M. - 3 P.M. at the New Britain Baptist Church and make quilts for children, place mats for Meals on Wheels, Fidget Quilts for people with Alzheimer’s, Walker Bags for those who use walkers and many more projects. We support both Bucks and Montgomery Counties. Since November’s 4th Thursday is Thanksgiving, they will meet the 5th Thursday in November.
Food Larder: We also support the local Food Pantry housed at the church. All members are encouraged to bring nonperishable goods, paper goods, or personal products help.
Newsletter: published each month and is sent by email. We also have a site on Facebook for you to follow.
Library: All members are invited to browse the library and borrow books. Members are responsible for the care and return of the items borrowed.
Challenge Quilt: Each year the Guild organizes a quilt challenge. The theme, restrictions and deadline, usually No, are announced in the spring and the quilts are displayed in November. The quilts are brought to the meeting in unmarked pillowcases and are displayed for members to view, and then members secretly vote on their favorite one!
Sunshine: Send out cards for various events and occasions.
Fons and Porter: Subscriptions and renewals can be made through the Guild for $20. The Guild receives $5 from this.
Guild Show: All members are invited and encouraged to display their work at our quilt show, which is not judged. It takes a tremendous effort on the part of the members to make the show a success. Each member is asked to contribute in some way. This is the main fund-raising event, and it is well worth the effort.
